AUTHORS' GUIDELINES

Types of articles

International Journal Polytechnic publishes original, previously unpublished works.

Scientific articles:

  1. Original research article – a paper presenting previously unpublished results of original research conducted using scientific methods;
  2. Review article – a paper containing an original, detailed, and critical review of a research problem or field in which the author has made a certain contribution;
  3. Short or preliminary communication – an original scientific paper in full format, but of smaller scope or preliminary character;
  4. Scientific criticism, i.e., polemics and commentaries – a discussion on a specific scientific topic based exclusively on scientific argumentation and using scientific methodology;
  5. Monograph study – as well as critical editions of scientific material (historical-archival, lexicographical, bibliographical, data reviews, etc.), previously unknown or insufficiently accessible for scientific research.

Professional articles:

  1. Professional paper – a contribution offering experiences useful for improving professional practice, but not necessarily based on scientific method;
  2. Informative contribution – editorial, commentary, etc.;

3. Review of books, scientific events, etc.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

All manuscripts should be submitted in English. Authors should adhere to British English language standards. The text should be typed in Microsoft Word, using Palatino Linotype font, size 12 pt. Set margins to 25 mm top, 10 mm bottom, left and right 15 mm, page size to A4 format, and type the text with single spacing, justified, no indentation for each paragraph, and without word hyphenation. Place only one blank character after each punctuation mark. Do not use tabs and consecutive blank characters (spaces) for text alignment; instead, use alignment control tools on the ruler and Toolbars. For special characters (symbols), use the Symbol font. Pages should not be numbered. Use short and clear sentences. Equipment and devices should be designated by factory names, with the manufacturer’s name and location stated in parentheses. If combinations of letters and numbers are used in the text, precisely denoted as numbers appearing as superscripts or subscripts, for example, 99Tc, O2. Do not use footnotes when writing the manuscript.

If the work is part of a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation, or was conducted within a scientific project, this should be specifically noted in an Acknowledgement at the end of the text. Also, if the work was previously presented at a professional meeting, state the official name of the conference, place, and time of the event, and whether and how the work was published (e.g., same or different title or abstract).

MANUSCRIPT LENGTH

The complete manuscript consisting of the title page, abstract, main text, reference list, and all attachments (tables, figures, graphs, schemes, drawings) must not exceed 8.000 words for original research articles, review articles, literature reviews, monograph studies, and professional papers, and up to 1.500 words for articles in other categories.

AUTHORSHIP

All persons listed as authors of the paper should qualify for authorship. All persons listed as authors of the paper should qualify for authorship. Each author should participate sufficiently in the work on the manuscript to be able to take responsibility for the full text and for the results presented in this paper. Authorship is based solely on: essential contribution to the concept of the work, obtaining results or analysis and interpretation of results, planning or critical revision of the manuscript that is of considerable intellectual importance in polishing the final version of the manuscript in preparation for printing.

The collection of data or general supervision of the research group can not justify authorship by itself. All others who contributed to the work but are not the authors of the manuscript should be listed in acknowledgements, with a description of their work, with their written consent. If the paper is part of the research project, that fact should be specifically indicated in the note at the end of the text. Also, if the work has previously been presented at a scientific meeting, indicate the official name of the event, place, and time.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Indicate any associates who have contributed to the creation of the paper but do not meet the criteria for authorship, such as those who provide technical assistance, help with writing work, or manage a department that provides general support. Financial and material support in the form of sponsorships, scholarships, grants, equipment, drugs, etc., should be given.

FRONT PAGE

On the first page of the manuscript, indicate the following: title of the paper without abbreviations; full names of all authors (with titles), indexed with Arabic numerals, ORCID iD, the official name of the institution where the authors work, city and country (in the order corresponding to the indexed numbers of the authors). At the bottom of the page, indicate the name, contact address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address of the author responsible for correspondence.

ABSTRACT

An abstract of 150–250 words is required for original research articles, review articles, short or preliminary communications, monograph studies, and professional papers. For original research articles and short or preliminary communications, the abstract should have the following structure: Introduction, Objective, Method, Results, and Conclusion. Each of these segments should be written as a separate paragraph that begins with a word in bold typeface. State the most relevant results (numerical values), statistical analysis, and significance level. For review articles, monograph studies, and professional papers, the abstract has no particular structure. Informative contributions, reviews, and scientific/professional criticisms, polemics, and commentaries do not require an abstract.

KEYWORDS

After the abstract, specify three to six keywords that do not appear in the title, and use defined terms from the Web of Science.

STRUCTURE OF THE ARTICLE

Titles and subtitles should be written in capital and small letters and in bold typeface. Original and review papers include: Introduction, Objective, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, References. Use only standard abbreviations. Indicate the full phrase and the abbreviation in parentheses when first mentioned in the text.

The introduction contains a very clear hypothesis or special problem that the author explores. The starting point is generally known attitude or knowledge, and from there explains what the author has decided to investigate through modern information and problems, and it moves from the general to the specific facts. Do not present extensive considerations on the subject of the work, and do not present data or conclusions from the work being reported on.

Objective. The intention of the author should be clearly defined in the aim of the research.

Materials and methods should include the design and research plan, data source, forming a sample, time and place of research, instruments, and the importance of the research. Statistical methods used in research to process the results should be clearly defined and stated. Do not forget that statistical analysis is only a tool that serves the presentation of evidence for the author’s assumptions or claims, and not the goal by itself.

Results are a function of hypotheses or studies on specific problems. Obtained statistical significance should be clearly marked. Display results in logical sequence in the text, tables, and illustrations. In-text emphasis or summarize only important observations. For decimal numbers, use a comma as a decimal mark in the Serbian language. In the English language, in tables, charts, and in other contributions, the decimal mark is a point (e.g., in the text will be 12,5 ± 3,8 and in the table 12.5 ± 3.8). Whenever possible, the number should be rounded to one decimal place.

Discussion includes evaluation and interpretation of the results in the scope of the research objectives, and comparison of the results with results in the literature, their theoretical and practical implications, and suggestions for future research. Emphasis should be on the new knowledge gained by the research and the fulfillment of the research objectives. Opposed to the introduction, the discussion flows from general to particular conclusions and provides an interpretation and importance of the results (analysis and synthesis). Do not repeat results in the discussion.

The conclusion should contain clear and substantiated facts in short form. Connect them with the goals of the work, but avoid arguments and conclusions that are not fully supported by the data.

Graphs and schemes (drawings). Create graphs in Excel and attach the original file with the table from which the graph was constructed (do not import and do not link from other programs). Create schemes in CorelDRAW X3 or earlier versions (do not import and do not link to CorelDRAW from other programs). Mark them with Arabic numerals in order of appearance in the text and specify the name. All data should be typed in Times New Roman font, size 12. Attach graphs and schemes as separate files in electronic form and in the specified format, and indicate in the text where graphs or schemes should be placed (e.g., Graph 1, Scheme 1 in red letters). Explain the abbreviations used in the legend below the graph or scheme.

Tables are numbered with Arabic numerals in order of appearance in the text (Table 1). Create all tables in Word (do not import and do not link to Word from other programs), with single spacing. Attach tables as separate files in electronic form and in the specified format, and indicate in the text where tables should be placed (e.g., Table 1 in red letters). Explain abbreviations in the table footnote below the table (not in the header). If you are using someone else’s data, be sure to cite them as well as any other information from the literature.

Figures are numbered with Arabic numerals in order of appearance in the text (Figure 1) and with a title. Photographs should be taken with a digital camera or scanned with a resolution of 300 dpi, in sufficient size, not less than 6 cm x 8 cm, and attached as a separate file. Indicate in the text where the figure-photograph should be placed (e.g., Figure 1, Photograph 1 in red letters). If the figure or photograph has already been published elsewhere, cite the source.

REFERENCE CITATIONS IN TEXT

APA citation style is used for reference citations. APA style requires both in-text citations and a reference list. For every in-text citation, there should be a full citation in the reference list and vice versa. In APA style, in-text citations are placed within sentences and paragraphs so that it is clear what data or information is being quoted or paraphrased.

Papers by a single author

The last name of the author and the year of publication are inserted in the text at the appropriate point.

From the theory of sustainable development (Jakovljević, 2021) …

If the name of the author or the date appears as part of the narrative, cite only the missing information in parentheses.

Jakovljević (2021) posited that…

If you have two or more sources by the same author in the same year, use lowercase letters (a, b, c, etc.) with the year, e.g., (Jakovljević, 2021a) … (Jakovljević, 2021b) or (Jakovljević, 2021a, 2021b), etc.

Papers by multiple authors

When a paper has two authors, always cite both names every time the reference occurs in the text. In parenthetical material, join the names with an ampersand (&).

As has been shown (Petrović & Stanojević, 2021) …

In the narrative text, join the names with the word “and”.

As Petrović and Stanojević (2021) demonstrated…

When a citation has three or more authors, include the last name of the first author, followed by et al. (not italicized), and the year.

Jojić Glavonjić et al. (2021) claimed…

Two or more papers in the same parentheses: when your parenthetical citation includes two or more papers, order them the same way they appear in the reference list, separated by a semi-colon.

Authors with the same last name: To prevent confusion, use first initials with the last names.

(L. Matthews, 2008; S. A. Matthews, 2019)

Papers by associations, corporations, government agencies, etc.

The names of groups that serve as authors (corporate authors) are usually written out each time they appear in a text reference.

When appropriate, the names of some corporate authors are spelled out in the first reference and abbreviated in all subsequent citations. The general rule for abbreviating in this manner is to supply enough information in the text citation for a reader to locate its source in the Reference List without difficulty.

If the name of the group first appears in the narrative, put the abbreviation, a comma, and the year for the citation in parentheses after it.

The European Environment Agency (EEA, 2020) states that particulate matter (PM), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and ground-level ozone (O3) are the most harmful pollutants in European cities.

Papers with no author

When a paper has no author, use the first two or three words of the paper’s title (using the first few words of the reference list entry, usually the title) as your text reference, capitalizing each word. Place the title in quotation marks if it refers to an article, chapter of a book, or Web page.

Italicize the title if it refers to a book, periodical, brochure, or report.

Specific parts of a source

To cite a specific part of a source (always necessary for quotations), include the page, chapter, etc. (with appropriate abbreviations) in the in-text citation.

If page numbers are not included in electronic sources (such as Web-based journals), provide the paragraph number preceded by the abbreviation “para.” or the heading and the following paragraph.

Serbian laws and regulations

To cite Serbian laws and regulations in the text, indicate the title of the law or regulation, followed by the related year or years.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Manuscripts and all accompanying materials must be submitted exclusively in electronic form via e-mail to: ijp@politehnika.edu.rs with the subject line “For International Journal Polytechnic”.

File names should include the first author’s surname and document type (e.g., Petrovic_manuscript.docx, Petrovic_figure1.jpg).

Required submission formats:

  • Main manuscript version: MS Word in .docx format
  • PDF version of the manuscript (identical to the Word version)
  • Graphics: original formats (JPEG, PNG) with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi
  • Tables: included in the Word document or as separate Excel files

The following must be attached to the manuscript:

  • Cover letter with a brief description of the work’s significance
  • Authors Statements

During the submission process, it is mandatory to sign and scan the Authors’ statements and send them together with the manuscript and supplementary documents. The Authors’ statements must be signed by the corresponding author.

Upon receipt of the manuscript, the corresponding author will receive confirmation of receipt within 3 working days.

Cover Letter

Brief letter (max 1 page) explaining the significance and novelty of the work, confirming that the manuscript has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration by another journal, and providing information on each author’s (full name, institutional email address, ORCID iD and year of birth).

Authors Statement

The corresponding author must complete, sign, and submit the Authors’ Statement form. This statement confirms that the manuscript is original and not published elsewhere, that all authors meet authorship criteria and have approved the submission, and that it includes declarations regarding conflicts of interest, ethics approval (if applicable), use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, funding sources, and copyright permissions. The statement must be signed, scanned, and submitted as a PDF file (filename: Surname_Authors Statement.pdf) together with the manuscript. Template is available for download on http://.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST

International Journal Polytechnic adheres to the Conflict of Interest policy recommended by COPE and/or other international research publishing regulatory authorities (ICMJE, EASE). The authors must declare in the Conflict of Interest Statement (CoIS):

  1. A statement of any potential conflicts of interest relevant to the content or a statement that there are no such conflicts.
  2. Disclosure of how the article is funded, including specific disclosure of any company funding (partial or total), or a statement that there was no such involvement (if applicable).
  3. A comprehensive explanation of the role of sponsors in article preparation if the article is sponsored in part or in whole.
